ABOUT GOVERNMENT EXAMINATIONS / SERVICES
Broadly the government services are classified in to three groups. they are
CIVIL SERVICES
The aim of the civil services is mainly to cater the needs of the civilians of the country. The nature of duties of civil servants is chiefly POSDCORB functions. i.e., (Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing, Coordinating, Reporting and Budgeting) to say colloquially. It’s a desk job or 9-5 office job generally but not always/not warranted.
DEFENSE SERVICES
Defense services or uniform services are mainly concerned with protection to the citizens, critical infrastructures, important dignitaries and the nation as a whole. The job nature involves planning and execution. The job demands swift mobility and round the clock.
TECHNICAL/SPECIALIST SERVICES
Technical/specialist services are concerned with the process improvement, actually these services aid/support to improve the civil and defense administration
CLASSIFICATION OF SERVICES BASED ON HIERARCHY
- All India services
- Central services
- State service
ALL INDIA SERVICES
Recruitment & training are done by centre and they are working for both the Centre and State Government.
CENTRAL SERVICES
Recruitment & training are done by centre & they are working to the Central Government only
STATE SERVICES
Recruitment & training are done by State Government are working to the State Government only.
State services (all levels) are recruited by state public services commission. For ex. TNPSC in Tamilnadu

INTRODUCTION TO PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION
It’s a combined examination for Indian Civil Services and Indian forest services. The main examination is separate for both the services. let us confine our discussion with respect to civil services examination.
CIVIL SERVICES PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION
It consist of 2 papers namely
General studies paper – 1
General studies paper – 2 (CSAT)
It serves as a screening test. The qualified candidates are admitted to main examination provisionally. The cut off will not be counted in final merit.
MAINS EXAMINATION
